Becoming Beloved

A message from our Children's Ministry Director:

Greetings!

As I get questions about the Becoming Beloved experience this summer I realize that the details of the program may not be totally clear. I have attached a information sheet to provide you more information about why we are doing this and what it will look like.

A few things to note:

-          All ages from birth-adult are invited and encouraged to participate in the event

-          Children going into 6th grade and under are to be registered with a parent, grandparent, or another adult. These children/adults will be placed in groups together. If you have children who want to attend, but are unable to have a parent or another adult attend with them due to conflicting schedules, please let me know. I will hook them up with another family!

-          Youth going into 7th grade and above will be place in groups separate than their families, unless they want to participate with their families.

After reading through the information sheet please let me know if you have any more questions!

Becoming Beloved

In our fast paced world, we don’t often take time to think about the fact that God chose each one of us to be uniquely beloved. Becoming Beloved is an opportunity to do that as our community will come together to affirm and bless one another. Henri Nouwen’s Book "Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World" provides a beautiful picture of what it looks like to live into our belovedness and provides a guide to the program. As we move through the program "[Our] only desire is to make these words reverberate in every corner of your being-‘You are the Beloved.’"

Why intergenerational?

We spend a lot of our time at church segregated by age. Children attend Sunday school classes, teenagers have special classes and programs, even our adult programs are often divided by different generations. While those opportunities are important, we can learn and grow so much by time spent together. Children need caring adult role models to help guide their faith development and adults benefit from children’s unique ways of viewing God and the world. This summer provides the perfect opportunity to do that! This program is the alternative to a regular Summer Bible Camp where the focus is on children learning about God through play, song, and story. Becoming Beloved in designed so children, youth, and adults will experience God through play, song, and story with one another.

Beloved Groups…

Participants will be placed in Beloved groups which are small groups consisting of 10-12 people. Children 6th grade and under will be placed in groups with their parents, grandparents, or other caregivers. Couples will also be placed in groups with one another. The groups will consist of people from a variety of life situations, young families with kids, young adults, teenagers, couples, singles, seniors, etc.
