Proverbs for Mothers

I was looking for an inspirational quote to feature on our Facebook page, and I came across this passage in Proverbs.  I couldn't fit the whole quote into a cover photo, but I had to share it!

I find it fascinating that although it has been centuries since this was written, so much for a wife/mom is still the same!

Enjoy!

Proverbs 31: 10-31

Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character
10bA wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Playdate, anyone?

2003 Flashback!

I was flipping through an old "Parenting" magazine from 2003, looking for photos of smiling babies for a wall poster I'm working on...if you're curious, stop by the Nursery this Sunday!  I (should) have it finished by then.

Anyway, amongst the "Baby Einstein" and Boppy ads, there were some real gems that I thought were worth sharing.

Enjoy!

5 signs you need to get out more

1. You don't know a single song on MTV's Video Music Awards...

2. ...and yet you can sing all the words to "Elmo's Song," "The Wheels on the Bus," and "Puff the Magic Dragon."

3. You realize that the best birthday present you can get is an uninterrupted bath and a clean kitchen after breakfast.

4. You find yourself glued to the Dora the Explorer Pirate Adventure video long after your kids have left the room.

5. You publicly drink from a juice box.

5 special perks of motherhood

1. You have an excuse for keeping Cap'n Crunch in the house.

2. You alwars have a handy reason to get off the phone-dirty diaper, tantrum, you name it.

3.  You can watch all those films you used to love, like Bambi.\

4.  You can finally stash that ugly vase/picture frame/candy dish your mother-in-law/sister/friend game you.  (After all, you wouldn't want the baby to break it!)

5. There's always someone who thinks you're the most beautiful person in the world.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.   -- Ephesians 2:10

Announcement from NCPC

Attention Singers!

The choir is preparing for the new season. Rehearsals are held weekly (with occasional breaks) on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 beginning September 4th, and we will sing in worship beginning Sunday, September 8th. If you have ever thought about joining the choir, now is the best time. Singers of all ranges are welcomed; Tenors and Basses are especially cherished by our choir family. From the first rehearsal, time will be devoted to begin learning our new Christmas cantata, Appalachian Winter, by Joseph Martin with traditional and original music cleverly arranged in a Celtic style. For more information, contact Hal Hunt at 425-412-3970

Attention Parents who are also Singers!  Did you know that childcare is available during choir rehearsal?  If you join the choir, and need childcare, just let Molly Pankow know!

Becoming Beloved

A message from our Children's Ministry Director:

Greetings!

As I get questions about the Becoming Beloved experience this summer I realize that the details of the program may not be totally clear. I have attached a information sheet to provide you more information about why we are doing this and what it will look like.

A few things to note:

-          All ages from birth-adult are invited and encouraged to participate in the event

-          Children going into 6th grade and under are to be registered with a parent, grandparent, or another adult. These children/adults will be placed in groups together. If you have children who want to attend, but are unable to have a parent or another adult attend with them due to conflicting schedules, please let me know. I will hook them up with another family!

-          Youth going into 7th grade and above will be place in groups separate than their families, unless they want to participate with their families.

After reading through the information sheet please let me know if you have any more questions!

Becoming Beloved

In our fast paced world, we don’t often take time to think about the fact that God chose each one of us to be uniquely beloved. Becoming Beloved is an opportunity to do that as our community will come together to affirm and bless one another. Henri Nouwen’s Book "Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World" provides a beautiful picture of what it looks like to live into our belovedness and provides a guide to the program. As we move through the program "[Our] only desire is to make these words reverberate in every corner of your being-‘You are the Beloved.’"

Why intergenerational?

We spend a lot of our time at church segregated by age. Children attend Sunday school classes, teenagers have special classes and programs, even our adult programs are often divided by different generations. While those opportunities are important, we can learn and grow so much by time spent together. Children need caring adult role models to help guide their faith development and adults benefit from children’s unique ways of viewing God and the world. This summer provides the perfect opportunity to do that! This program is the alternative to a regular Summer Bible Camp where the focus is on children learning about God through play, song, and story. Becoming Beloved in designed so children, youth, and adults will experience God through play, song, and story with one another.

Beloved Groups…

Participants will be placed in Beloved groups which are small groups consisting of 10-12 people. Children 6th grade and under will be placed in groups with their parents, grandparents, or other caregivers. Couples will also be placed in groups with one another. The groups will consist of people from a variety of life situations, young families with kids, young adults, teenagers, couples, singles, seniors, etc.

The Schedule…

Wednesday July 24th to Friday July 26th

6:00-6:20- Large group worship

6:25-7:05- ½ of the Beloved Groups have their group time while ½ of the groups gather for special activities

7:05-7:45- Groups switch

7:50-8:00- Closing large group worship

Beloved Group time will consist of: Ice breaker games, an ongoing group art activity, discussion, and dessert

Special activities will include: prayer stations, nature walks, large group games and more

Saturday July 27th

We will have several options for Beloved groups to visit a local organization to serve the morning of July 27th. Saturday will end with a large church picnic lunch and celebration at a local park.

Becoming Beloved- Intergenerational Summer Bible Camp

I hope your family will consider participating in our exciting Summer Bible Camp opportunity this summer. All ages will gather together to worship, play, and share in life together all based on the theme Becoming Beloved. Parents and grandparents get to join in the SBC fun this summer as we gather July 24th-27th. We will meet Wednesday-Friday from 6:00-8:00pm and end Saturday with morning service projects and an all church picnic celebration.

April and May

In April, our children were reading a story called, "New Life in Jesus", which uses a butterfly to illustrate the resurrection.

I hope you enjoyed the butterfly crafts and coloring pages.  This spring, if you see a butterfly, remind your child that butterflies remind us of Jesus!

In May, our two year olds will be learning about prayer, with a special craft celebrating mother's on May 12th, Mother's Day!

"Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence." 2 Corinthians 5:17
