Advent is upon us!

Instructions for ornaments found here
 Merry Christmas!

Hard to believe the season is here already, but next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent.

This year, I thought I would try something different for our craft in the 2's class.

I was inspired by our church's theme for advent:

HOPE
PEACE
JOY
LOVE
REJOICE

Each week, our two's class will be making ornaments to take home, that tell part of the Christmas story.

Week One: HOPE

"And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night..." Luke 2:8

Week Two: PEACE

"...the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was." Matthew 2:9

Week Three: JOY

"An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of Lord shone around them..." Luke 2:9

Week Four: LOVE

"There was no room for them in the inn."  Luke 2:7b

Week Five: Rejoice

"She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger..." Luke 2:7a

If you miss a week, stop by the desk and I would be happy to give you the craft kit for the week you need.

May God bless you and your family in this holiday season!

October: Noah's Ark

Happy October, and welcome to fall!  The leaves are changing, the air is cooler, and our two year olds are getting smarter by the minute.

The lesson for October is Noah's Ark.  It's a fun story for the little kids, with lots of animals and action, but it also teaches an important lesson, that God loves us, and he promised to take care of us.

Here is the break down of the lessons each week:

Week 1: Build the ark!

Week 2: Bring the animals on the ark

Week 3: Send the dove

Week 4: Rainbow

Watch for fun crafts that relate to each weeks story, and a coloring page too.

Don't forget: Second Saturday at the Village Bean in Country Village, Bothell.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”   Genesis 9 12-16

September: Welcome New 2's Class!

Are you ready for school?  It's that time again!

Next Sunday, September 11th, we will be welcoming a new batch of two year olds to their first experience of Sunday School.  I'm so excited to start another group of children on their journey to learn about God!

We are also welcoming our new 2's teachers:

Hannah and Tony Dal Maso
Shannon Frisvold
Emily Mus
Stephanie Mossett
Lisa Batt
And our returning 2's teaching assistant: Mallory Barbour

In September, our class will be learning about Creation.  For a two year old, it is a simple but powerful lesson: God made the Earth, and every living thing on it.

The kids will be bringing home fun creation crafts and coloring pages, and hopefully, some big ideas!

Next month: Noah's Ark

August: Fishers of Men

It may seem odd to base a month's worth of Sunday school lessons on one line from the Bible.

"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."  Matthew 4:19

We have taught our 2 (now 3!) year olds about creation, Noah, giving thanks to God, the birth of Jesus, Jonah, God's love, prayer, the resurrection of Jesus, the lost sheep, the healing power of Jesus...and now we are teaching them what it means to be a disciple of Christ.

On the first Sunday of the month, I had the joy of teaching the 2's class.  Our craft was simple, but the message was a powerful one.  Each child colored a fish with their name on it, and glued the phrase, "Caught for Jesus" on the back.  I asked the children, "Do you know who Jesus is?"  And they all said, "Yes!"  Then I asked, "Do you know that Jesus loves you?"  And they all shouted, "YES!"  "Then," I told them, "you have been caught for Jesus!"

I asked the children, "Who caught you?  Who taught you about Jesus?"  The kids replied their mom, their dad...but one little girl touched my heart when she said that her teachers at church caught her for Jesus.

The rest of the month the lesson and the crafts will focus on how our students can "catch" more people for Jesus.  They can share stories from the bible, say prayers before meals, or just tell anyone they know about the love Jesus has for all of us.

Coming soon:  Graduation!  I have really enjoyed getting to know all of your children as they have grown up from babies, to toddlers, to amazing children.
On August 28th, we will be celebrating the graduation of our 2's class, from the Nursery to Sunday School.  September 4th, Labor Day weekend, there will be no 2's class, and on September 11th, the new Sunday School year starts.

For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

Two's room summer curriculum

Summer is here! School is out, the sun is shining (some days!) and the Son is as present as ever in our hearts and minds.

"I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18

In the summer, our 2's class meets as usual, every Sunday during the 9:00 service.  Of course, most of our "2's class" are 3 now!  It is amazing to see the change and growth that even one year can bring to the youngest members of our church.

Our summer curriculum is:

July - Jesus Heals
  • We will read stories of Jesus healing people who are sick, blind, or paralyzed
  • Our crafts will illustrate healing, with band-aids, bandages and more
August - Fishers of Men

  • We will read the story of how Jesus called his disciples to throw down their nets and become fishers of men
  • Our crafts will include lots of fish, nets, and boats
  • The goal for this lesson is to give our students their first lesson in becoming disciples of Christ, that they too can be "fishers of men"
On August 28th, we will be celebrating the graduation of our 2's class, from the Nursery to Sunday School.  September 4th, Labor Day weekend, there will be no 2's class, and on September 11th, the new school year starts, so we will have a brand new 2's class.

I hope you all are having a wonderful summer!

“Finally, brothers [and sisters], whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”    Philippians 4:8

Curriculum Update

Hello again!
This has been a very busy year and we would like to share some of the lessons we have been studying so far. December we enjoyed a joyous season celebrating the birth of our Savior and playing with manger playsets in class. It was nice to have new children join our classes that we don't normally get to see. The beginning of the year brought a new theme, Jonah. The children really enjoyed hearing the story of Jonah and the whale and we talked about how we need to listen and obey what God wants us to do and not hide from Him. February was all about love. We talked about God's amazing love for us and how we need to show His love to others. We discussed all the people in our lives that we love- our families, our friends and of course God!! In March we discussed the importance of prayer and how God is always available for us to talk to about anything. We talked about praying and telling God how grateful we are for everything he has done for us, as well as asking for his help with problems. April was an amazing month celebrating the resurrection of Christ with lots of Easter fun! It was once again nice seeing friends in class that we don't always get to play with!
That brings us to May (already?!?!?) and this month we will be doing some crafts with butterflies and how they represent new life and how we have a new life in Christ. We will also be doing some special Mother's Day crafts and letting our Mom's know how much we love them! We are still looking for Dad's to volunteer to teach our 2's class on Mother's Day so we can give Mom's the day off- please let Molly know if you are able to help us out!
We hope you are enjoying this spring season and signs that God brings new life all around us! Hope to see you soon!

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you;. . ." Ezekiel 11:19
